Who tf wants to press tofu juice for 30 mins? Not you! Take your average block of firm tofu and give it life in a quick-jiffy à la panko fry. Don her in dipping sauce before you (accidentally) eat the entire block in one sitting lol. Some saucy sauce dipping ideas: Chilli Oil Sauce, Nutty & Spicy Sauce, Spanish Mayo, Not So Secret Sauce. You can also make it a meal by adding steamed greens or sautéed veggies with rice or noodles drenched in sauce.
Ingredients
- 14 ounce block extra firm tofu
- 1/2 cup flour
- 3/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs
- Salt & Pepper to taste
Preparation
- Drain tofu and cut into 1 inch cubes.
- Mix flour and water (preferably bubbly) in a large bowl.
- Place sliced tofu in large bowl with flour mixture and shake/stir to coat tofu.
- Heat enough oil to cover the bottom of a pan (I used a 10in cast iron) on medium high.
- Place Panko salt and pepper in another bowl and individually cover each cube before putting it in the hot pan.
- Work in batches so all tofu has contact with oil. After 1 side is browned, use a fork or tongs to flip to another side.
- Remove from pan & pair with choices of dipping sauce.
- Note: Browning two sides was enough but go for more if you’re a crisp freak, though the insides might end up a bit dryer.
