Panko Tofu

20 Mins

~4 servings servings

Who tf wants to press tofu juice for 30 mins? Not you! Take your average block of firm tofu and give it life in a quick-jiffy à la panko fry. Don her in dipping sauce before you (accidentally) eat the entire block in one sitting lol. Some saucy sauce dipping ideas: Chilli Oil Sauce, Nutty & Spicy Sauce, Spanish Mayo, Not So Secret Sauce. You can also make it a meal by adding steamed greens or sautéed veggies with rice or noodles drenched in sauce.

Ingredients

  • 14 ounce block extra firm tofu
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Drain tofu and cut into 1 inch cubes.
  2. Mix flour and water (preferably bubbly) in a large bowl.
  3. Place sliced tofu in large bowl with flour mixture and shake/stir to coat tofu.
  4. Heat enough oil to cover the bottom of a pan (I used a 10in cast iron) on medium high.
  5. Place Panko salt and pepper in another bowl and individually cover each cube before putting it in the hot pan.
  6. Work in batches so all tofu has contact with oil. After 1 side is browned, use a fork or tongs to flip to another side.
  7. Remove from pan & pair with choices of dipping sauce.
  8. Note: Browning two sides was enough but go for more if you’re a crisp freak, though the insides might end up a bit dryer.
