~6 servings (2 pieces of tofu per burger) servings
Tofu gets a bad rep for needing lots of time to process (press out the juice and marinade). Yes, this gives flavor but you can also just say fuck it! This crispy, juicy and flavorful recipe is for that occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 (14 ounce) block extra firm tofu
- Chili oil dipping sauce
- Oil for pan frying
- Toppings Ideas: Burger buns, mayo, sautéed mushrooms, cucumber slices, green onion, sprouts
Preparation
- Drain tofu and cut block approximately into 3 inch long, 2 inch wide and 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick rectangles.
- Place 2 tablespoons of oil in a cast iron or non-stick pan and heat on medium. Once hot, place as many tofu slices as you can fit. Let them fry until just barely golden and flip to the other side to repeat.
- In the meantime, make chili oil dipping sauce (link to chili oil dipping sauce recipe).
- Once both sides are golden, pour 1 tablespoon of sauce per tofu slice into pan. It will sizzle, leave them be until sauce is mostly evaporated. Flip tofu slices and repeat on other side and remove from heat once sauce is evaporated.
- Assemble your burgers!
